Regional authorities from across Europe gathered in Rennes on 23-24 November for a symposium to compare strategies for promoting dual use innovations in cyber security. Hosted by the Regional Council of Brittany, participants looked into key issues for the development of a dual use strategy, such as links between research, business and education, as well as access by SMEs to large industry and public procurement. A lack of cyber-skills was identified as a major challenge for all regions. Public-private partnerships were considered to be a promising way forward.
The outcome of this important event will serve the European Commission in further developing its policy on defence-related clusters and regions.
