24 January 2023 - Bordeaux
This conference was organised by the European Commission, the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, its Development and Innovation Agency and its regional partners.
The main goal was to exchange views on the importance of the challenge of sustainable development for European defence industries.
With a large number of stakeholders present in Bordeaux from the European defence ecosystem participating from 10 Member States and Norway, the event encouraged participants to exchange best practices and introduce solutions contributing to the greening of the sector and implementing the Green Deal objectives, enhance synergies between civil and defence companies, identify needs from the industry and introduce EU programmes supporting R&D.
Dedicated sessions dealt with “Life cycle”, “Energy”, and “Skills”. The “Life Cycle” session focused on the importance of covering the entire process to develop sustainable products or services for the defence sector, all the way from the conception phase to the end-of-life phase. The “Energy Session” provided industry perspectives on how new developments in energy savings, green energy production, and energy storage can help to answer the needs in the defence sector. The final session on “Skills” saw the participation of universities and companies that discussed how to make defence jobs attractive for youth and beyond.
