Successful symposium on synergies between European Defence Fund and other EU funding
On 3 and 4 October 2018 more than 100 people from SMEs, larger companies, regional and national authorities and other stakeholders met in Seville to discuss synergies between the European Defence Fund and other EU funding sources such as the European Structural and Investment Funds, but also national programmes such as Rapid (France) and Coincidente (Spain).
Regions presented examples of the uptake of defence and dual use priorities in their smart specialisation strategies, while companies (from SMEs to Primes) testified how they used diverse funding opportunities at national and EU level for research and innovation, the drivers of success and challenges, and how these projects have contributed to the development of their business.

Workshop on Synergies between ENDR and EDSP & and the use of Structural Funds
On 5 December 2018 we will be building a bridge between the ENDR and the European Defence Skills Partnership (EDSP). Members of the EDSP will gather in Brussels to discuss how to use the Structural Funds to build skills for the defence sector.
Starting from a situational analysis of defence-related skills in Europe our discussions will feed into the development of the European defence skills strategy. This strategy will be accompanied by concrete proposals for actions to be funded by the European Social Fund, but also the European Regional Development Fund.
The ENDR can play an instrumental role in spreading best practices and raising awareness on the use of ESIF. A number of ENDR members are already participating in the EDSP workshops. Based on their experience, participants are expected to contribute to a further uptake of defence-related projects by ESIF, thus creating more benefits for clusters and regions active in the area of defence.
