EDSP Conference ‘Fostering Skills for Europe’s Defence Industries’, 9-10 October 2019, Bordeaux
It is vital for Europe’s defence industry to secure and retain the key skills to deliver on Europe’s defence needs. This conference will focus on the vocational education system meeting the needs of defence industries, innovative approaches in higher education for defence-related skills, and enhancing the attractiveness of the defence sector for new talents.

The event is co-organised by the European Commission and AEROCAMPUS Aquitaine in Latresne (Bordeaux) in the framework of the European Defence Skills Partnership (EDSP). It will gather about 100 participants from industry, academia, research, authorities, EDSP members, and a number of ENDR members.

It will include a session during which new ideas for projects and initiatives will be presented and interested parties can express their interest. In October, the European Commission will publish new calls on skills, so the session will also facilitate matchmaking for consortia building.

ENDR Conference ‘Defence Skills and Dual Use Technologies’, 14-15 November 2019, Caserta
The event, organised by the European Commission and ENDR member DAC, will be held in Caserta (Italy).

Skills will again be high on the agenda of this conference, but with a different focus. The event will bring companies, clusters, authorities, and academia together to discuss actions in support of skills for the defence industry, and how the European Structural and Investment Funds could contribute to this.

Defence skills are also crucial for the success of cross-border collaborative projects in the framework of the European Defence Fund. This is why the event will also feature a workshop dedicated to exploring possible cooperation in line with the 2020 work programme of the European Defence Industrial Development Programme.

New Erasmus+ calls on skills coming up in October 2019
In October, the European Commission will publish new calls for proposals on skills under Erasmus+, the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The most relevant calls for the defence sector include Knowledge Alliances, Sector Skills Alliances, Strategic Partnerships, and European Universities, which are open to all industrial sectors. Opportunities for cooperation and consortia building for applying to these calls will be facilitated during the October event in Bordeaux. The next opportunity for matchmaking is envisaged for the ENDR conference in Caserta in November.
IdentiFunding helps you find the right EU funding source for your defence project
Earlier this year, the European Defence Agency launched ‘IdentiFunding’, an online tool, which allows defence stakeholders (industry, clusters, Research Technology Organisations, academia, public administrations) to quickly identify EU funding schemes available for their defence-related projects.

Currently, more than 20 funding opportunities are covered by this tool, including the European Defence Industrial Development Programme, European Investment Bank loans, European Structural and Investment Funds, COSME, and Erasmus+.

Since its launch 5 months ago, more than 200 defence stakeholders from across the EU have used this free software, thereby saving budget, human resources and time in order to identify swiftly the eligible schemes at European level.
