Developing different industrial areas for the defence, naval industry and telecommunications sector, the region of Cantabria has developed the first Cluster in Defence.
This Cluster was created with the target of being a useful tool for support in an industrial sector that has an important presence in Cantabria and Spain, developing high-tech defence systems and services.
The Spanish Defence Industry Cluster includes the Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria, the regional development agency SODERCAN, together with the University of Cantabria and the Technological Center of Components. It includes 9 public entities and 44 companies specialised in the defence sector (from all over the country), mostly in satellite telecommunications, radiofrequency and microwave electronic systems, IoT & communications technology as well as in the naval sector
Going forward, one of the Cluster’s key areas will be to explore joint specialisation in an emerging sector: autonomous or unmanned marine and submarine vehicles, IoT platform & electronic warfare .
