The Principality of Asturias, a manufacturing and industrial region that generates knowledge and technology, is committed to the development of the Defence Industry and, thus, to being able to contribute to and support the Spanish Army in its Innovation strategy. To this end, and with a marked focus on research, development and innovation, the Asturian industry has organised itself around a technological hub. Currently, an ecosystem has been built around this initiative, with more than 30 members including large companies, SMEs, start-ups and technological innovation centres. The industries that make up the association account for more than 15% of the region's GDP and employ more than 2,500 professionals.
Areas: Design, engineering and advanced manufacturing; medicine and combatant protection; robotics and autonomous vehicles; additive manufacturing; weapons, ammunition and defence systems; information technologies, VR/AR and simulators.
Objectives:
Coordinate all the agents (companies, academia, technology centres and public administration) working in the defence sector and carrying out technological development tasks in this sector, through the design and execution of a technological innovation roadmap.
Increase the presence of technology suppliers and technology seekers in the defence sector supply chain, both nationally and internationally.
Identify and execute technology demonstration projects that serve as proofs of concept with the capacity to be implemented in the defence sector in the short to medium term.
Increase the involvement of the Directorate General for Armaments (DGAM) and the Logistics Support Command (MALE) in the industrial and technological fabric of Asturias.
Promote training and qualification in the associated companies in everything related to R&D&I in the defence sector.
Promote forums, debates, congresses and similar initiatives, in which experiences and results related to innovation in the defence industry can be exchanged.
Provide information and dissemination to keep the members of the entity up to date on the evolution of aspects related to R&D&I in the field of technologies linked to defence.
