Estonian Defence and Security Industry Cluster

Cybersecurity, Electronics, ICT, Land sector, Maritime, Naval, Photonics, Robotics

The Estonian Defence and Security Industry Cluster’s overall goal is to enhance the international competitiveness of its 16 member organisations in foreign markets via R&D collaboration among the members and with Estonia’s public sector stakeholders.

With its strong focus on SMEs, the cluster fosters opportunities for its members to introduce their products and services to target markets via governmental contacts and institutions. As a result, the cluster says that both the added-value per employee as well as the sales revenue of its member companies have increased in international markets.

The cluster maintains close contacts with Estonia’s Ministries of Defence and Interior to identify and develop dual use capabilities in cybersecurity, electronics, ICT, photonics and robotics for land, naval and maritime use. For example, its seven work groups bring together public sector end-users, university representatives and businesses for both B2B and B2G (business-to-government) meetings to that end.

The organisation’s research and innovation activities are linked exclusively to smart specialisation growth areas such as information and communication technologies (ICT) or the health sector, and its members participate in projects supported by the EU’s Structural Funds.
