Cluster of Security and Defence of Latvia

Advanced materials, Aeronautics, Cybersecurity, Energy, ICT, Land sector

The main objectives of the Cluster of Security and Defence of Latvia are to promote dual use and defence innovation for Latvia’s Ministry of Defence and other customers, while boosting cluster members’ high value-added exports in those areas. Around 80% of the cluster’s activities involve the dual use and defence sectors, mainly in the areas of advanced materials, aeronautics, cybersecurity, energy, ICT and land sector technologies.

The cluster strategically coordinates with Latvia’s research institutes to foster innovation by the region’s SMEs. It supports the latter by monitoring major research programmes and procurements, and helping them position their products on dual use markets. The cluster also represents the interests of Latvia’s defence and security companies, educational institutions and scientific institutions at national and international levels.

Its dual use strategy is linked to Latvia’s national Research and Innovation Strategy for smart specialisation.
