Flemish Aerospace Group - FLAG

Advanced materials, Aeronautics, Aerospace, Electronics

Officially recognised as a cluster by its regional government in April 2017, the Flemish Aerospace Group (FLAG) brings together all of Flanders’ aeronautical services, R&D, maintenance and related ground services and airport infrastructure activities. Its 70 members are involved in the sectors of advanced materials, aeronautics, aerospace, 3D printing, electronics and complex metal alloy structures.

With only 10% of its members’ activities arising from defence or dual use, FLAG has a strategy to support more growth in these areas.  While this is not tied to Belgium’s national RIS3, it is linked to its strategic defence vision, issued in 2017, which defines Belgium’s essential security interests and the key enabling technology areas related to them.

One of FLAG’s main goals is to increase the competitiveness of the region’s aeronautical industry to double its turnover and increase employment by 50% by 2030 compared to 2014 levels.
